Using the Change of Contact Application

At its current release, the change of contact application allows you to record your address submissions to organizations and entities. We call these entities Contacters because they may contact you at the address you submit to them.

Recording address submission will help you remember who has your address when you move to another address. You can then contact and notify them of your change of address. In future releases, the application will do the notifications on your behalf

Another feature of the application in the current release is that it reminds you to notify the Contacters around the time you are likely to move. The time is estimated based on the dates you enter when adding your current address in the application.

The application does not need a lot of interaction from you. Here are the steps you need to take to use these features after you created an account.

Step 1: Add your current address

The first thing you need to do after creating an account is to add your current address. You will be automatically directed to the new address page to do this when you don't have any address in your account.

Step 2: Record your address submission

In general, you may submit your address to Contacters in two ways: online on their website or offline on paper or phone.

In the former case, you can install and use our browser extension to automatically record the submission while submitting the address. You can find more information about these extensions in the browser extension guide.

In the latter case, you can go to the submission page for the current address and enter the submission details manually

Step 3: Change your address

You have recorded all submissions of your current address to Contacters since you signed up for the application, and now it is time for you to move. What you need to do now is indicate your change of address in the application and change your current address to the new one. After that, you can get the list of Contacters who are not up to date with your new address and need to be notified.

Step 4: Notify Contacters

Once you update the application with your change of address, you can get a list of Contacters you need to notify. The list contains the details of the Contacters you have entered to assist you in contacting them. You can indicate in the list which Contacters you notified to keep an up-to-date list.

In future releases, the application will automatically handle much of the notification task, trying to keep your intervention at a minimum. The submission recordings you do now will come in very handy when that release is ready. Therefore, we recommend you start now.
